introduction back
The 775 MW, Luhri Hydro - Electric Project located in Shimla, Kullu and Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh, is a run-of- the river type development proposed to harness the hydel potential of river Satluj between Kepu and Bindla villages. In the earlier Pre-Feasibility Report prepared by HPSEB the dam site was proposed near village Nathan 14.6 Km d/s of Luhri Bridge resulting in an Installed Capacity of 465 MW. The site has favourable geological conditions but the available head of around 90m between tailrace outfall of Rampur HEP and Luhri remains unutilized. Accordingly, in order to gainfully utilize this 90m available head another dam site at Kepu village about 1.5 Km u/s of Sainj has been proposed by SJVN, thus enhancing the installed capacity from 465 MW to 775 MW.
