The third Indo Nepal Summit 2008 was held on
23-24th September, 2008 at Hotel Yak and Yeti in Kathmandu. The
Independent Power Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN); Nepal, Indian
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) and PTC India hosted the Summit
whereas SJVN co-sponsored the Summit. The objective of the summit was to
explore the possibilities of Hydro Power Project cooperation between
India and Nepal. Dy. Prime Minister of Nepal Shri Bam Dev Gautam
inaugurated the summit on 23rd September, 2008 and welcomed the 300
delegates from India and Nepal. Indian Minister of State for Commerce
and Power Shri Jairam Ramesh with 60 member delegation from leading
power developers like Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited, GMR, L&T, Jindal
etc. addressed the participants and asked them to make the event
successful. The two days event focused on discussions and deliberations
on the subjects like hydro power development in Nepal, hydro power
policy in Nepal, challenges in hydro power construction in Nepal,
trading of power in India and Nepal, risks and mitigation initiatives
for hydro power projects in Nepal, corporate social responsibility in
India, global warming, energy conservation etc. Shri Awadesh Prasad, Dy.
Manager (R&R) from SJVN made presentation on CSR in the summit. The
presentation included various aspects of community facilities provided
by SJVN like infrastructure, community development, health, education
and assistance to the local residents during disaster. The other SJVN
delegation members who attended the summit were Sh. D. Wadhera, DGM (Incharge),
Sh. D. Dash, Sr. Manager (finance). The summit was held in an
environment of true spirit of cooperation. At the end of summit Sh. T.N.
Thakur, CMD, PTC extended vote of thanks to all the delegates for making
the event successful.
