MOP has finalized the allocation of power amongst the beneficiary states of the Northern Region in March 2003. While the states of Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have indicated their willingness for purchase of power generated from the Nathpa Jhakri project, the Uttarakhand State has refused to buy the general power from SJVN. As such Power Purchase Agreement (PPAs) have already been signed between SJVN and Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Further, efforts are also being made for signing of PPA with Uttar Pradesh

The allocation of power amongst the beneficiary States of the Northern Region by the MOP has already been finalized and the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) have been signed between SJVN and Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Further, efforts are also being made for signing of PPA with Uttar Pradesh at the earliest.

A ‘Tariff Petition’ was heard by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) on November 14, 2003, wherein the provisional tariff of Rs 2.18 per Unit for the year 2003-04 has been approved. So far, a sum of about Rs 64 crores have been received from various SEBs towards electricity purchased by them from the Nathpa Jhakri project.

The details of the power allocation generated by the Nathpa Jhakri Project to the different states/UTs of the Northern Region by the Ministry of Power are as under :-

* allocation of Himachal Pradesh includes 12% free power on account of the distressed caused to the State on account of submergence, dislocation of population and 25% share (i.e. 330 MW) in the remaining 88%, corresponding to the State’s agreed share of 25% in equity contribution to the Project.

** The unallocated quota (15% of power available after taking into account (i) & (ii) above) is to be distributed within the region or outside depending upon overall requirements from time to time. The 4.4 % share (i.e. 37 MW) of the State in the remaining power available after taking into account (i) to (iii) above as per allocation formula based on ‘Central Plan Assistance’ & “Energy Sale”.
